Joint proposal from Pharmac and Health New Zealand to expand pharmacy services

Overview

Health New Zealand is proposing to expand funding for a range of services and treatments that pharmacists can provide directly to defined groups of patients with common conditions including:

• treatment for scabies
• oral rehydration for children
• pain and fever management for children
• treatment of headlice
• treatment for conjunctivitis for children
• treatment for urinary tract infections
• the emergency contraceptive pill

To support this change, Pharmac is proposing to apply an endorsement in the Pharmaceutical Schedule to allow Direct Provision by Pharmacists in accordance with their pharmacy agreement.
